Cornucopia. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 25 August 1899

Cornucopia. A reporter from this office paid a flying visit to Cornucopia — Messrs G. and t-. G. Smiths' property — and was afforded an opportunity of inspecting the p'ace by Mr. S. G. Smith, who said they, roughly speaking, divided their crops inu- two divisions, one for grain and the other for fodder. At present they have J300 acres under cultivation, and the crops look very well, inbVed. There are three kinds of wlicat. At first, Purple Straw was what the proprietors pinned their faith to, but for tho last two years they have added Allora Spring and Steiu widi-hl to their selection of grain. Last season- they cropped 900 acres for wheat and obwincd a result of 17 bushels to the acre. The year before, a larger percentage of ground was given to fodder, but from the 700 acres of ' corn land,' a result of 30 bushels per acre was obtained. This speaks well for the capabilities of our country about Narromino. Some of 1hu whoat is over 18 inch s above the ground, and about 100 acres, so...

Sydney Mems. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 25 August 1899

Sydney Mems. (From our own Correspondent.) Sydney \e experiencing one of the wetest winters ever known. Rain has been falling almost constantly for the last four months. Daring the whole of last week tho sun did not show for one second, and the greater part of the time rain fell in torrents. All race meetings and football matches fixed for Saturday had to be postponed. On Monday last the sun shone brightly from 10 a.m. to about 4 p.m., when rain a^ain enmmpneed to fall heavily, and lias, with slight intermission con tinued ever since. The footboll match, England v. Australia, played on the Syduey Cricket Ground, on tde 12th instant, notwithstanding all that has been written about it could not bj called a good exhibition of football ; being for the most part a scramble in the mud. Generally when any player essayed to run he more often than not found a resting place for his head as well as his feet in a pool of water, and then another player wonld secure the ball only to m^et a like f...

(From another Correspondent.) [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 25 August 1899

(From another Correspondent.) The Opposition is honeycombod with intrigue. Six members of tho Opposition think themselves cut out for the Premier ship, when nature really cut them for ever out of the Premiership. ' Price Warung,' after an illness of nearly 12 months is about again. He rendered inestimable service to the Federal cause. The Batharst Conven tion was planned and organised by him, and his Federal writings extend ing over years wonld fill volumes. The ' Bulletin ' is now recognised as the most reliable and iaflueatial and fearless authority on business and fin ance in Australasia. The versatile James Edmund is responsible for this department of the journal. By the way, Mr. Edmund wrote nearly the whole of the Federal articles in the Bulletin which bad such a tre mendous force, not on!y in New South Wales' hut throughout Australia. The ' Bulletin,' strange enough, is chiefly responsible for the popular domand in West Australia. It has a big circula tion in the West. Almost...
