GERMAN ATROCITIES IN BELGIUM. [PER REUTER.] ANTWERP, Tuesday. A Commission of Enquiry has gatherer! evidence of German atrocities at Vise, Ousmiel, Aerschot and Lou vain in the vicinity of Maliuos. The German soldiers emptied the publio treasuries and became intoxicated. They dis charged rifles in the streets and through empty houses, afterwards declaring that the inhabitants had fired at them. Under this pretext they committed murder, and burned and pillaged the towns. They shut up men in the churches while they outraged the women, also taking hostages and demanding ransoms. Tho Victorian voto at tho Federal elec tions on 5th inst. appears to have been a record for this Stato, exceoding oven tho remarkable Genres of the elections of 1913. Counting is, of courso, not yet corapleto, but it has advanced fur enough to enablo an approximate ostimiito of tho poll to bo uiude. Tnkiii!; tho figures available, and making nn allowanco for tho absenteo votes still to l>o cimniod, it appears that tho average poll for tho 17 districts was nbout 80 per cent, of the electors enrollod. Last year's figure, which represented ft rocon 1 poll for Victoria np to tlmt time, was 75.5 per cent. In nearly all of the 17 electorates in which there woro con testa for tho House of Uopresentatives, tho pull wns greater this year than in 1013. Tho exceptions appear to havo been the metropolitan seats of Bourko, Fawkner, and Maiibyrnong, where there was a very slight falling oil. ...

THE HOSPITAL UAI.L. A SUCCESSFUL CiATIIERIN'G. The animal ball in connection with tho Victoria Cottage Hospital was held in tho Athenreum Hall, Corryong,. oil Friday evening. There was a large attendance from all parts of tho district,, in spito oi the dark and rainy night, over eighty couples talcing part. Good music was. supplied gratuitously by Mrs Knight, Mrs Acoeks, Mrs Burke, Miss 13. Playle, Miss B. Simpson and Messrs Robinson and Davis, and Messrs K. Knight and T. Luklns acted as floor stewards. A.u excellent supper was provided by tho ladies under the supervision of Mrs Dalgety and Miss S. Waters, many willing assistants boing in attendance at the tables. Messrs T. Grcenhill and E. Crawford took charge of the doors. Tho genoral arrangements wero in the hands of Mr R. Knight, tho honorary secretary,, and the evening passed very enjoyably. Tho returns have not yet been made up, but tho result should be a welcome addition to tho hospital funds. Dr. Arthur asked in tho N.S.W. S...
