REVISION COURT. [Newspaper Article] — The Benalla Ensign and Farmer's and Squatter's Journal — 22 July 1870

REYVISION COURtT.. This Court met on Tuesday last, the Pro sident, and Crs. Boger, Simson, Guppy, and Roe being present. There were no objec-   tions, and the claims were then considered. Henry Browne claimed four votes for the bank premises at Benalla. It appeared that the "Colonial Bank" was rated for the new bank premises in Bridge-street, at £100 per annum, and Mr Browne, being the manager of the bank, claimed to have his name inserted on the roll, as the Colonial Bank could not veto. It was stated that Mr. Browne had not served notice on the person objected to, but he being the manager, it was not considered necessary, and he was unanimously ordered to be put on the list. Hector Norman Simson applied to be put on the roll for Tatong and Springs stations, instead of M'Culloch and Co:, claiming four votes. An argument took place on the point that the persons already on the list had not been noticed by applicant, as required by tho Act. Mr. Simson paid the rates. A le...

MR SULLIVAN'S RESIGNATION. To the Editor of the Benalla Ensign. [Newspaper Article] — The Benalla Ensign and Farmer's and Squatter's Journal — 22 July 1870

MyR SULAIVAN'S RESIGNATION. Te tkde Editor of the Benalla Ensign. Sir,-The Press being the legitimate means of exposing chicanery, I take the liberty of point. ing out to the electors of the Benalla shlire tlia' reason why Ir Thomas Sullivan, one of :the r..resentatives of the North.east Riding, re ,igned his t.eat which I consider a transparent and despicable dodge. According to the not, In Auguste of each year the councillor who has boon longest in office n each riding has to retire ; the cosequonce+ of Mr Sullivan having reaignoed before Auguslt thereby compelling Mr Simson to' retire and stand another oleotion, if he wishes to remain in the Council. As he represents a large propertyin the riding, he most likely wishes to have .something to do in the managemoont of affairs in it, but the nice little family party 'at which Mr Sharpe is at the head are doubtless snnoyed at not belog'able.to do any more Glue pots jobs whilst he remains there ; and as Alr il?son has, I bolieove, give...
