BUT! [Newspaper Article] — The Riverine Grazier — 6 January 1875

B U T! '; But ! 'Tis but a little won!, Yet how much its moaning, And how often it goes forth With importance teeming, 'Tis the word which ofttiraos turns Sweet hope to dark dospair, Shadowing- forth sad end to that Which did commence so fair, . Joy it often turns to grief, And happiness to woe ; .?Fond companions of ttimes parts, j And friend oft turns to foe. Soon 'tis said 'and soon forgot By him who speaks the word, Though long remembered oft by him By whom it may be heard. See ! there's: some ono sore perplcxt, Stayed fast in his career, . TACT. [Newspaper Article] — The Riverine Grazier — 13 January 1875

TACT. (Ireland's Eye.)' The ease with which blind people steer clear of obstacles, [i by feeling their way,' is often a source of marvel to us. Their 'geometric sense of touch ' not only enables them to determine the form of ob jects, but also the difference in their colours, while there are many per sons blessed. -yith unclouded vision who yet cannot distinguish green, from blue. Now, tact is to its pos sessor what. sensitiveness of touch is to the blind. Tact not only kno\ys what is the right thing to do, but how to do it, and com bines the eye of discernment with the skilful hand of performance. It has been truly said that talent argues, but tact converts.' It is Want of tact when conferring an obligation, not only detracts from the gratification the service of gift might otherwise impart, but may | lessen th...
