Our ·angwarrin Letter Mr H. F. Griflith's Successful Chicory Harvest A painful accident occurred at the State school on Monday last, during the dinner hour to one of the scholars, Master Steve Corlett. S:By ':'Wild Irishman" You may talk of early closing, you may curse it till you die ; You may slate the Farmers' Un -ion till you're black.; But in all your wrath and raging you're not half as.mad as I " When I find electric light is what I lack. When I'm writing in my ledger, o'er the book my head I bow Arid my eyes are sore with strain ing through the night *; Then I feel I would die happy if I could but kill the cow Who has made me do without my electric light. There are hundreds of excuses why our light is nightly off, And we're told in technicalities so fine Of condensers, transformers and convertors till we scoff, For we know there's no one cal led to "toe the line." There are hundreds of excuses i of reasons there's but one, And that reason very clearly you will agree Is that while some people may have many qualities anon, Their " expertness" stands out for all to see. Sporting Notes SOME NEWSY TATTLE [Newspaper Article] — Frankston & Somerville Standard — 7 October 1921

Sporting Notes '| SOME NEWSY TATTLE BY "STRATHMORE" E.,urythmic ! The hero stoush ed by Tangalooma in the October Stakes! It must have hurt those mugs who had to buy a bet on Euryth mic to see a 10 to 1 chance come home by the length of the pro verbial bee's knee. Eurythmic and Tangalooma are in the same stable-Holt's at Mordialloc. Sometimes this fact explains a lot. And, of course, Purser got home safely in the Stand Handi cap. He and Tangalooma should make things merry in the Caul field Cup-what ? Mr Henry Masterton's King of the Sea went out at any old price and easily beat Gringalet and Daarewin for last place! A sailor at the Base, says it is harder to have the last word with a woman than it is to train a Westernport oyster to sing the Marseillaise ! Jack Holt, of Mordialloc fame, declares Eurythmic to be the most intelligent horse he has yet handled. "He's a bonny horse," opines Frank Dempsey. Another case of hero worship, sayeth the Shade of Thomas Carlyle I A disciple of Ad...

PICTURE NOTES [Newspaper Article] — Frankston & Somerville Standard — 7 October 1921

PITURE NOTES By "Vignette" A packed house last Saturday night. The programmes now be ing presented deserve a packed house every picture night. In the opening picture, Carter de Haven played the role of a mercantile clerk. He lived in a home like "Moondah" and rode to work in a £1500 automobile I America must be the pen pushers' paradise after that. vised version of the story of Chia and pretty Unie Russell, though in this case, Sessue Hayakawa, as the Chinese prince,' did 'not wreck the life of the girl he'so passionately adored. Doraldina, a wild and absurd type of heroine, was the only damsel in "The Woman Unta med," but the love interest was too slight, and, apart from the exquisite scenery, there was but little in the picture. The scene of this story was supposed to be the South' Sea Is lands, yet the natives hunted an elephant and wore leopard skins about their girdles, whilst lemurs and monkeys were in the trees I In the South Seas-since whef ? The .elephant must have, swam ove...

The Shire President in Sympathy with Movement [Newspaper Article] — Frankston & Somerville Standard — 7 October 1921

The Shire President in Sympathy with Movement The Shire President (Cr Long- muir), after presiding at the month- ly meeting of the Shire Council at Frankston yesterday, was compelled to return home, and was, therefore, unable to attend the above public meeting. In common with the other councillors, Cr Longmuir is in entire sympathy with the movement, so the voluntary effort of the public to im- prove the reserve will meet with ev- ery encouragement from our civic fathers. The Shire President is of the opinion that many of the pine trees in the park could be removed with advantage to the oval and profit to the Trustees.
