Eusmbs utt Prevent their deaths by helping lie Lambing Ewes Epsom Salts irritates the Stomach, starts purging amongst the Ewes, makes the Lambs premature, won't make milk, weakens the Ewes so much that it is with difficulty they regain their feet after lambing. It is the worst thing possible to give to Lambing Ewes, and you will not find any of the big Stud breeders attempt to use it, particularly in dry times such as the present, with Lambing approach ing. There is not tho slightest necessity to use Epsom Salts when Oil Meals such as Cotton Seed, Linseed, and Cocoanut are available. These are a food and tonic in themselves, providing soCt, easy laxative, and will neither cause purging In the Ewes nor scours In the Lambs. Mooki Springs Cottcn Seed Salt Fodder is a food to the body, keeps the tensile strength in- the wool, and gives it good condition, provides a big flow of milk, which means that a strong, healthy Lamb is reared. This means also less cost in looking after the Lamb in...

PRICKLY PEAR. QUEENSLAND COMMISSION. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

PRICKLY PEAR. QUEENSLAND COMMISSION. Vested with funds amounting to £10,000 a year, and with wide judicial administrative powers to deal in the prickly pear problem, a land commis sion of three members has been created. The members are : Mr. W. Payne, Assistant Under-Secretary for Lands (chairman), Mr. F. Power, at present officer in charge of the land settlement branch of the Lands Department, and Mr. William Purcell, a dairy farmer of Cambooya. For the chairman a salary of £900 a year is provided, and for the other two members £800 each. The appoint ments are for a term of 10 years, and the commission starts its work in April. The acting-Premier said that while he did not expect the mere appointment of the commission was going to solve the prickly pear problem, he did think that a basis would be laid for an or ganisation that eventually would enable the Government to prevent the spread of ' the pear and finally to deal with the areas already infested.

A VISIT TO BATHURST. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

A VISIT TO BATHURST. Tlie visitor to Uathurst is always struck with two tilings. The beauty oi tiie central square and the general lay-out of that fine, little city, and tlie extraordinary lack of club life among a well-to-do community that one would have expected to find possessed of a good woman s club, as well as one for the male portion of tlie residents. True it is that there is the Golf Club, but that serves only a limited section of tbe community. It has been said that Bathurst does not agree sufficiently to run a club. It lias also been whispered that there is very little community spirit in this central city of the plains. At all events it seems a pity, when one re members the delightful clubs that grace Goulburn, where the ladies have estab lished one of the most charming and delightful little rendezvous in Austra lia. Where Bathurst scores, however, is undoubtedly in its town planning, and just now, when the borders along the centre of the square present a glow ing mass o...

' Talk®' i the Town' DEAR VALENTINE — AS you say, it is going to lie a great April. 'Oh, to be In Sydney, now that April's here.' The Fleet will be here. Something we haven't seen for ?quite a generation. With the Fleet, the sailors, so if you aren't interested in the one you may be in the other. The sailors have been having the -time of their lives since they came to ?our ports. Adelaide was a bit unhappy because, for some reason or other, tbe ships ?didn't get right up to their back door. Some said there wasn't enough water, others hinted that they hadn't put enough water in it at Perth, but any how tliey had a great time. Private hostesses were invited to entertain naval officers for their stay in port. A great idea, but I tell you when they came to give the invitations tlie once over, quite a lot of them were ruled over the fence. As I said, one ?can't be too careful in a big city. Then at Hobart the horrid Social ists put the word round t.hat Hie spe cial service men were b;-(!...

I'VE BEEN READING. "THE SAINT OF THE SPEEDWAY." [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

I'VE BEEN READING 'THE SAINT OF THE SPEEDWAY.' (By Itidgewell Cullum. — Our copy from Robertson & Mullins, Ltd., Melbourne.) THIS is a ripping story. It can be recommended to readers who like plenty of action with it. The setting is mainly in Alaska, although the opening chapter is off the north-west coast of Australia. Life in Alaska rrnnnrjillv line rrnl/1 \rilli if, nnrl life is apt to be seen on the raw. Ridgwell Cullum is a good writer, as you probably know already from some of his other books. Besides gold there's oil ; and, of course, there's gambling. Also, there's love — what would a novel be without it. The man brought in gold-dust and nuggets that panned out at eighty-two thousand dollars. The banker was a bit curious, and lie asked was not the prospector afraid of being followed. 'Not a little bit,' he said, roughly. 'I guess the' ain't a guy in ljeacon with the guts to get out to the creek I got staked. If he'd the guts lie couldn't make it. And if he made it he...
