LIBERAL VARIETY , FOLK [Newspaper Article] — Player — 29 December 1911

LIBERAL VARIETY , FOLK It is said that , vaudeville artists displayed great generosity in bestowing Christmas cheer upon tenants of the Putnam building this season . The assertion was made by a gentleman who saw many of the gifts that it would require a moving van to handle them all in one load . Officers of the U . B . O . remembered their employees substantially and from his associates in the Family Department and other sections of the United Offices , Daniel Hennessy received an elaborate and expensive silver service . With the gift came a flow of eloquence from Pat Casey which made the occasion memorable .

PHILADELPHIA [Newspaper Article] — Player — 29 December 1911

PHILADELPHIA Bell Phone : Filoert 44-20 By BOB WATT No . 261 So . 9 th St . The week before Christmas and all through the house , or houses , there were evidences of distress . It is true that the falling off in business this year was not as strong as in previous years , but business was far from being good in this city . Although everybody had been warned that they should shop early , that having been yelled at them since last August , many people put off the job until the last week and then ,-after a strenuous day in the big shops they were in no humor to go to a theater . They would rather sit at honie and talk over the gifts they had purchased or figure out how to stretch the remaining bankroll so it would hold out and go all the way round . Everybody figured out that because the big shops would not remain open at nights that theaters would have a big week , but they did not .
