The Mgo.treo is a kin. of palm ; it grows in swamps. When it is ten or fificon years old, it flowers, and then dies. When sago is to bo raado, a fall. grown troe is picked out just before it is going to flower; then a man cuts it down closa to tho ground, and clears away all (lit leaves and leaf stalks, and takes a broai strip of tin bark off tho upper side of tho trunk. The pith is then cut or broken down fntoa coarso powder. It is afterward washed and strained ; and tho sago-starch is separated from the fibrous part. What does "fibrous" mean t Having fibres or atrings. The fibrous psrt is not good to cat; the starchy part only is used for food. This is mado into largo heavy parcols, and nearly covered with sago leaves, and sold as raw sago. They niako sago bread and cakes in the islands whero this curious tree grows. ...

School, No. 285 Hast Fifty fifth street, lie was a beautilul looking child, with large gray eyes, brown hair, rosy checks, and very full, regular fea tures. H attracted unusual attention.. Visitors as woll as the tonchers admired him, and even the very roughest of his playmates wcro kind to him. Tbe teacher taught him a pieco lu recite, which caused groat laughter on account of the bright, active and prompt mannor ho had in de'ivcring it. A gentleman visited tbo school, when ttio I ml was called upon to recito his piece. After lie bad finished, the gentleman placed his hand upon his shoulder and said "Well done, my boy, here is fivo cents fjr you." Fisk, although a mar ried mac, had taken up with another wo man, one Mr. Mantfiold, lavishing large urns of wealth upon her. Stoke, whom ho had taken into his confidence and as sisted in many ways, proved recreant to tho trust imposed in him, sod estranged the woman's affections for Fink. Jeal ansiy ensued, a misunderstanding oc curred, and law suit relative, to the oil interests and an attempt of Stokes and Mri. Mansfield to blackmail Fisk.
