O@R WEEKLY LBTEIR FROM WASHINGTON Senator Culberson of Texas for President in 1908--Canal Pur ehase Investigation. Washington, D. C., Feb. 28, 1906. J Senator Tillman's resolution regarding the railroad trusts in West Virginia is a step in the right direction, and created quite a stir in the Senate. The Sen ator is rough, rugged, fearless and honest, and when in action re minds one forcibly of a twenty ton steam hammer at work. Senators Bailey and Carmack are equally alert in their efforts to look out for the interests of the people but follow different lines. Bailey goes after them with a baseball bat, while Carmack takes their hide off with a razor. The effect is the same. If you don't believe it ask Senator Patterson. He knows. CULBERSON FOR PRESIDENT. It's getting along about that time of the political calendar when Presidential possibilities are talked about, so I am going to get in line and have my say. -OD ROADS OBDICT, LESSONS Goverammnt Wi Build Sample Road Where Materials and Labor is Furnished. There is no use trying to get around the fact that in the near future the people of Winn parish, and every other parish as well, must make a change in the public road systems now in vogue. Rural communities demand bet ter roads and the towns and cities must have them as a matter of business. It will, of course, require many months, perhaps years, to get the question sufficiently agitated to produce stable results, therefore, it is not out of place to keep up the agitation, in season and out of season, so as to hasten the time when we can enjoy some of the beneficial results. Winnfield and all Winn parish are interested in better public loads. but being inexperienced we must be taught the best and most economical methods, and for this purpose there is no bet ter or economical means than the demonstration road work being done by the agricultural depart ment of our government. The departme...
