m Volkswagen Stuffing Record collecting Phone booth cramming Then there were Fads that brought out the competitive nature of youngsters, such as swallowing live Gold Fish. In the ‘ 50’ s and ‘ 60’ s, you had Fads that found you participating with friends, rather than all alone with just a photographer to capture the moment. For example - Volkswagen Stuffing was a big Fad that took you and most of your friends to accomplish. The idea was to pack as many people into a VW Beetle that you could. The more the merrier. No, you couldn’t remove the seats or any other standard equipment. Just cram as many bodies into the body of the VW. Those with claustrophobia stood cheering on the sidelines. For those youngsters who didn’t have a VW available, all you and your friends had to do was search for a corner phone booth. Once you found one - preferably unoccupied - you would see how many bodies you could cram into the booth. Yep, same principal as VW stuffing. Kind of like a game of Twister with...
