CONCERT AT CHRISTMAS HILLS. The above concert was held in tie Mechanics' Institute last Wednesday niglht, and proved i fair success, considering the unfavorable state of the weather. Mr. Sayle being voted to the chair, intimated the object of theon tertainment, which is as follows :-" It was held in aid of the Christmas Hills Mechanics' Institute and Free Library, and it was well worthy of te surround ing inhabitants' support, as books teed to increase our knowledge and here we could st,pply ourselves with that knowledge. OPENING OF T'HE LILYDALE RAILWAY. The opening of the railway from Hawthorn to L:lydalu was celebrated on Friday last by a banquet given by the people of Lilydale Shire in compli ment to -Mr. "Bent, the Miister of Railways, and other members of the Ministry. A special train froaii Prince's-bridge station, which left at 12.15 p.m., conveyed Millisters, other moelbers of Parliament, the heads of the Railway department, and a large number of ladies and gentlomisi.who desired to visit the locality.
