THE KALGOORLIE MINER PUBLISHED DAILY. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1895. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 25 September 1895

THE KALGOORLIE MINER PUBLISHED DAILY. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1895. The Government makes no sign of any intention of providing blocks on which the miners of the goldfields can build homes for- themselves. On the contrary their latest move in increas ing the upset price of the suburban blocks around Coolgardie from .£20 to SAO per quarter acre points to an even more grasping policy than ever being pursued in reference to homes.tead blocks. The lands now being offered in the old town ar© totally unsuited for business purposes and on them the residents have already built homes. In putting up prices the Lands De partment is merely endeavoring to thwart any attempt on the part of the residents to secure homestead blocks at reasonable rates. If the purchasers by mutual agreement decide to allow every settler on these previously un' occupied Crown Lands to secure his awn little strip of land without com petition, they will have to pay twice the sum set upon the best sites in the main stre...

Proposed Removal of Mr Warden Jephson. INDIGNATION MEETING. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 27 September 1895

Proposed Removal of Mr Warden Jephson. INDIGNATION MEETING. . On Thursday evening a general meeting, largely attended, of those interested in mining, and residents of the district, was held at Waldock's Club hotel,- to protest against the proposed' removal of Mr Warden Jephson. Mr G. M'Leod Matheson was vote-1 to the Chair. The Chair man having read the advertisement calling the meeting said that the. reason that, he had I een asked to preside over the meeting was that he was one. of the earliest of the late arrivals- on the field. He had the acquaintance of Warden Jephson but not having been able to form a close friendship with him, he must be considered impartial. Another reason for placing him in the chair was the fact that, he himself had been a civil '' servant for. eight years, and he was therefore in a position to know some thing of what was expected of a civil servant. He knew that the Warden was most fair and impartial, and from his own experience coull state that he gave d...
