POPULAR POLICEMAN LEAVING ALEXANDRA. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 5 August 1949

POPULAR POLICEMAN LEAVING ALEXANDRA. First-constable A. E. Dodd, who has been stationed at Alexandra for about ten years, has been appointed to the Records Branch of Police Headquar teos, Melbourne. This is a blow-one which many local people will feel.. During his long stay at Alexandra First-constable Dodd has never "worn' out his welcome"-he is held in the same high esteem to-day as when he first came. There's plenty behind his popularity, for he has proved a citizen of no mean order, besides a police official of integrity. While here he interested himself in many move ments calculated to advance the town and district, and took a leading part in quite a few. For instance, he was the ardent secretary of the Shire National Fitness Committee, a mem ber of the Alexandra Football Club, and the Alexandra School Commit tee. Of this latter body he is chair man, a position which he has filled with distinction and tact for quite a long time. r Another prominent office held by First-Constabl...

ALEXANDRA TOO GOOD FOR THORNTON-ACHERON VALLEY. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 5 August 1949

ALEXANDRA TOO GOOD FOR1 TIIOIRNTON-ACIIEItON VALLEY. Last Saturday the much discussed and keenly .iwaitcm match war played on the local showgrounds, when Alex andra were at home to the combined team. All roads led to the show grounds, and the large crowd paid no less than £95 for admission, a sum that would do credit to an Association match in Melbourne. All who attend ed got their money's worth, as a good game was witnessed and there were thrills a-plenty. The ground was in good condition, but perhaps a little slippery, and a breeze favored the grandstand goal all day. Umpire Kiernan gave a fair and impartial exhibition; and with the exception of a couple of incidents when players let their tempers control them the game was played in.fine spirit. It was hard and fast throughouit. The Redlegs' skipper won the toss and elected to kick to the hill end, against the breeze. On the bounce of the ball Alexan dra were first to attack, but the Com bined backs turned them out. Thorn ton-Ache...
