THE YARRA TRACK. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 8 October 1898

THE YARRA TRACK. (From our own Correapondent.) Beautiful spring days,-with alternate *wintry ones, smart sfnoW storts, and heavy winds have been the features of the weather during the present moon; .but, notwithstanding, we have quite a number of prospectors with us, who are getting over a large tract of country, and several new leases have been pegged out, When once the fine weather sets in, there is little doubt that the ranges will once more become the haunts of city specglators, as the Stocknan's lease, on the Vig River, has 20 ounce stone in sight, and are now:only awaiting the arrival of ma chinery to.prove its value.:: -The Golden Secret (Messrs. This perfor mnance was accomplished on the ocrns ion of the sttempt of the Victorv Cluib to lower the record held by the Gee long Club. In a 100 mile reeay ride brilliant Individual prefornman-es such as Parsons' effort of Saturday week, are certianly helpful to the succreses of the team, but they they are not nearly so important as their or ganization, The actual prize money won by Green in the Cocas Cup was .t20 hesides the honor of holding the Cup for 12 months he theroefore received £1 a mile for his Pesttons. Tax intinmaitiond conveyed-'by our Too' langi correspondent in last issue that 50 men were to be employed in that locality to cut laths for the Mary borough mines, has given rise to much discussion locally, and the question has been asked, could not the benefits accru ing from this undertaking, by a little reverted to the pockets of our towns people ? It is not for us to begrudge" this stroke of good fortune to our Too langi and Yarra Glen brethren, neither dowe wish the inference to be drawn that we are of that grasping and ava ricious class; ever ready, with a vampire teinacity, to suck the heart-blood of any movementnot beneficial to the interests of our own township. BOOMERANG SHOTS. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 8 October 1898

. BOOMERANG SHOTS. BY Quiz. What would the ratepayers of ,Lily-.. dale think if their Shire Councillors, in deliberate thought, were to vote away some of their money by which Rlealesville would receive'tbeibeneft; yet, according to your leading atticle in last issue this is just what our 'local legislative body did at its last meeting, viz., determine to send work to Lily dale which could just as well, be done, and serve the purpose better, in the township. It will be seen that my allusions points to the complaint made by the editor (and justly, too) of one half of the shire advertisements being inserted in the Lilydale paper. .'DoL these wise councillors expect contrac tors, &c., to walk 14 miles after every council meeting to see those adver tisements; or, is it an attempt ,to coerce people to subscribe to this won derful compendium of originality; or, is it that they are so enraptured with the powerful intellect displayed with the budget of local news forwarded by its loc...
