MINING. ZEEHAN NOTES. THE QUEEN. [Newspaper Article] — Zeehan and Dundas Herald — 29 October 1890

MINING. ? ^. ? [BY OUB SPECIAL, M8. O D. GIBSONJ ZEEHAN NOTES. THE QUEEN. Driving has been temporarily suspended in the tunnel since my lust report, the men being elsewhere engaged. The face, how ever, shows an improvement, the formation being the full width of the drive, and the last assay showing oozs silver per ton, whereas recently only traces of silver have been obtained. In the winze, which has been sunk to 17ft, llie the lode continues to the west, and the manager is now open ing out west in order that he may be : guided as to the sinking the air shaft. j The lode shows to a width of fnlly I 3ft, with only a few inches of mullock j intermixed. This is a most decided im- 1 provement, and if it continues will tear I out my expressed opinion ss to th« pro- 1 bable enlargement of the lode. The ore j consists: of carbonates and galena, the last J assay showing 151ozs silver per ton. A j crosscut is also being put into the west, I almost opposite the south of the winze. 1 It has be...

TEC TH ' For the muse tint lacks Atslsunce For the wrong that needt reel*t*BCe For the future In t)ie ilitf»nce lull the good that, we can do.' WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1890. There are parasites to be found in every department of life — lower forms of existence that derive their nourishment, from other and healthier, active natures, upon which they feed, and to which they persistently cling. In one phase of our social life these parasites are known as ' toadies,' in another as ' loafers,'' and iu yet another as ' jumpers.'' It is in the latter form that the parasites are to be found upon the great mining fields of the world. The jumper follows the honest prospector wherever lie goes, fattens upon his successes, and en deavours to rob him of his hard-earned spoil. Many a hard-working bona fide prospector has already learned this to his cost, even on Hie conipariitivejy new fields of Zeehan and Duiidas. Unfortunately, as the mining laws of the colony ;it present stand, the jumper c:in c...
