Wallabadab. August 19. [Newspaper Article] — The Murrurundi Times and Liverpool Plains Gazette — 22 August 1874

Wallabadah. [FROM OUR CORRESPONDENTS] August 19.           My Long silence has been caused by dearth of news. Now, I am happy to say. tbe people are showing symptoms of recovering from their lethargy, and business is resuming its usual vigour. The late burglary- is so far a mystery as to who are the criminals., The fact, however, shows plain, that we are not so free from crime as we thought. Until the offenders are discovered, a feeling of mistrust will be       rankling in our minds, and our sense of security destroyed. We sincerely hope the miscreants may be brought to justice. The ease and apparent indifference with which   the entry was effected--the lamp having been   lighted, the slabs removed and carefully re- placed, the abstraction of trousers, vests, and pickles — are subjects worthy of consideration to the townspeople. The chief event of import...

Singleton. [Newspaper Article] — The Murrurundi Times and Liverpool Plains Gazette — 22 August 1874

Singleton. (From the Singleton Argus, August 19. THE WEATHER.-- We have no change to   report in the weather from Wednesday last till Saturday night, it having been fine, bright, and mild, the temperature indicating the retirement of winter and the approach ot the most charming of the seasons — Spring, which is already spreading its green mantle over the face of nature, and fast covering the unsightly winter barrenness with the refresh- ing verdure of its more congenial season---   pleasing enough to the eye of man, but what must it promise to the gramnivorous part of the brute creation, after the starvation of the past few months ! Verily we might expect to meet with choruses of laughing jackasses. did we not recollect that the jackasses of this southern world are never found either to walk on four feet, or to practice vegetarian- ism. On Sunday the temperature was much warmer than might be caused for this time of the year, which caused some of the wea- th...

Maitland Markets. MESSRS. WOLFE AND BADGERY'S REPORT. [Newspaper Article] — The Murrurundi Times and Liverpool Plains Gazette — 22 August 1874

Maitland Markets MESSRS. WOLFE AND BADGERY'S REPORT Fat Cattle : Cattle having come in plen-   tifully of late, the trade scarcely noticed a shorter supply last week, and Monday's market presented only one draft of good cattle, and a large number of buyers, all wanting supplies; consequently prices advanced 15s. a head, which advance was fairly sustained on Thursday. We do not expect a continuance of this week's rates, as we have a full supply approaching. We quote best yard bullocks to £9 ; ditto cows to £7 10s. ; single beasts, extra good, over these prices. We have only sold of mixed and medium at quotations. Store Cattle : Only very few, principally mixed cattle, have been yarded this week, and have made full rates. At present we cannot say if prices this spring will go above or up to those of 1873 ; but we ad- vise our constituents to watch our reports, which will be a fair nnd reliable guide. We have sold some bullocks this week at £5 5s. ; and quote best bullocks...
