Our Sydney Letter. (From our own Correspondent). [Newspaper Article] — The Charleville Times — 6 June 1896

Our Sydney Letter. (From onr own Correspondent). Since last writing yon, moat of onr colony has bean favored with genial raina and the ontlnok has consequently im proved, and it will be now possible for the ever unfortnnate farmer, with whom the weather is a life-long bugbear, to gat in his seed wheat so that we may antici pate a supply of bread nest season even if the tick disturbance and consequent prohibitory legislation entails a meat famine m the near future. As 1 cannot write about meteorological phenomena with the facility and dlan of Borne of your local agents, who pad up their somewhat skimpy exchanges with categorical descriptions of the doings of the heavens, I shall not weary your readers with too nrach weather report. # * * # This tick trouble seems likely to become a very ticklish matter. Three years ago, in consequence of the unlimited "tick" the old country had permitted us, we be came almost bankrapt, and now this new variety of tick seems to be on the eve of bringi...

Our Brisbane Letter. (From our own Correspondent). BRISBANE, June 2nd. [Newspaper Article] — The Charleville Times — 6 June 1896

Our Brisbane Letter. (From our onn Correspondent). Brisbane, June 2nd. I His Exceuenct is doing well at Eockhampton—especially when tackled by the Separationista. A great many addresses were presented to Lord Lamington yesterday, but we are told they were all short, with the excep tion of that from the Separation League, and it took ten minutes to read. I think I'could Bit down and write a very fair precis of that address after turning up one (anyone) of Mr. Curtis's speeches in a Kockhampton paper. One can therefore pardon the correspondent who failed to tele graph the ten minutes' discourse, especially as- he sends on the terse, trenchant reply of his Excellency. Poor Joe Chamberlain! At his com ing to the Colonial Office, the Separa tists of Sin, Sweat, and Sorrow fairly melted with enthusiasm. With such a man at the head of affairs, justice to the Fitzroy was certain. And now, alas, "the recent despatch of Mr. Chamberlain has caused much dis quietude and dissatisfaction." The of...

THE Charleville Times. SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 1896. POSSIBILITIES. [Newspaper Article] — The Charleville Times — 6 June 1896

THE Charleville Times Saturday, June 6, 1890. POSSIBILITIES. The day must come when this district, and others, blest with an abundance of subaqueous springs when tapped pour forth their millions of gallons of water, will be densely populated by a thrifty grazing and farming popula- tion. Are we to allow nature to take her course, or are we to assist in developing her resources ? With our boundless area of, we may almost say primeval, land, and the millions of our race anxiously awaiting to get released from the congested populations of the mother country, we unhesitatingly say-assist. When the primary assist ance can be shown to be of an inex pensive nature, all the more reason that it should have an immediate commencement. Experiment is hardly necessary because the New South Wales Government, with commend able energy, on finding that the supplies of water from their artesian bores were more than sufficient to provide for'the sheep and cattle on   the travelling stock r...
