By CLAP-TRAP. Thursday, February 23. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 25 February 1882

BY OLAP-ThAP. Thursday, Fi'ebruary 23. To-day, the red lette-d.y of a Iscgo and important community who have just initiated their annual tryst, and big w;thl fate to a number of gallant candidates who wore about to contest for distinc tion on their local turf for the first time, was cloudy, cool and pleasant, in fact, a most enjoyable day for such outdoor work. Donning the magic cap given me by my old chum Fortunatus, a ncap which enables me to be i, attendance wheresoe er Ilist without my presence be ing known, I tookl my flight early to the scene of action, and was somewhat as tonished to notice the immense amount of enthusiasm displayed over the innu gural meeting. The first steeds to come under my observation were those en gaged in the Bumnberrahl Purse, and in a corner of the paddock I saw a little knot around Mlale s as he was being sad dled up. HIe looked an honestand game fellow, but there was a slighlt appearance of too short a prc, ration, and I think he would have shown b...

PASSING NOTES FROM TAMBO CROSSING. Wednesday, Feb. 22. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 25 February 1882

IPASSING NOTES FIIOM T '1TUIBO CROSSING. (?FRO OUR OWN CORREsPONDENT). WTednesday, Feb. 22. About 7000 of Messre. WVilson and Dougharty's sheep are on their way down in charge of Mr. Faithful. They lookl well, though they have not found much to eat by tile way, the groass being dried up very much lately. The convincing day for the Tambo candidates draws nigh, and we shall soon know who are the favored of the electors. lIr. Jolhn Calvert is an ex perienced and good councillor, but if returned for tile Bruthen riding, will be somewhat awkwardly placed as a mecm her of the Bairnsdale council when any questions arise between the two shlires, as is almost certain to be thie case. W'hile admitting that foul and atro cious crimes were committed here by a small body of old criminals, I think that to describe the population of Victoria in the early digging days as worse than tlsat of Sodom is-well, a little too strong, and hIow i s it that now special legislatlon and thle cat o'-nine-tails a...
