OUR DIRECT TRADE WITH GREAT BRITAIN. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 18 October 1861

'OUR DIRECT TRADE WIrr GREAT BRITAIE. 'TaHE season is now ,rapidly approaching when our great staple products will require the means 'of conveyance to the markets of the old world, and we are glad to see that the requirements ,of the producers are not lost sight of by the merchants of this colony. Our enterprising townsmen, Messrs. Walter 'Gray & Co., have 4gain undertaken to providetheo means of direct 'shipment, by laying on the Woolloomooloo,. Srhich vessel loaded from hence last season. Messrs. Raft Co., hsae also made arrange ments for layitg on the Wansfeil, which is now 'daily expected to arrive in Moreton Bay; so that shippers will have a choice of vessels, and 'they will, no doubt, largely avail 'themselves of ithe accommodation thus afforded. T"here is just one danger which may arise trom this provision of accommodation, which it will be well for all parties interested to bear in mipd,-and that is, that by having two ves selsdsid on'tbe brth at the same time, ehere...

To the Editor of the Queensland Times. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 22 October 1861

Toek Editor of the Queenland Tires. inra,~-Senator Maealister has thrown off and published in youirjoornal, for the benefit of the world in general, Sand of the readers of tihe Queenslantd Times in particular, another ehareseieritic effusion, a parvum in multo epistle, in which he mentions my name no less than thlrtlyirs times, and " pnhulity calls on me not only to state, but to prove any motive he could have had in writing his first letter beyond what appears on the tacee of it." He adds that, "jf Ido not do so," (ihe does tot say if I can not do so, but if I do not do so), I must submit to be held as having jat forth an impudent assertion, &c. Here, then, we are told by Mr. Maealister, a member of Parliament and a professed lawyer, that any and every ?man eo does notat chose to publishl in a newspaper all be knows about any ~ubjeot he tmay write on, is an " it pudent fellow!" THE LOCAL PATRONS OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOL. To the Editor of the Queensland Times. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 22 October 1861

THE LOCAL PA~TRONS OF THE PHISbARY SCHOOL. To tle Ed;tor of the Queensland Time. Srw,-Allow me to utter may most indignant protest against the conduct of our recently appointed Board of Patrons bfor tile Primary SchooL The members signalize their entrance on office by at once overthrowir.ng the purposes lor the completion of which the provisional committee had been so long labour ing, and in so doing oflfr, in my opinion, soan insult to the people of Ipswict. It was the opinion of the pro visional committee that Ipswich was fully as important as either Gladstone, Maryhorough, Goayndah, or even Rorkhhmptonr, and from first to last it was their inten tion to raise £500 to secure the E10,0 promised by the central hoard. Of this sum, as [ understood, above £PO00 was subscribed, and the moention was to offer a sumfficient guarantee tor the remaining t200. As a provisional ·ommittee has no proper standing in the eyesof the central board, and as a board of patrons in anycase should have th...
