AMONG THE JUNIORS. [Newspaper Article] — Saturday Referee and the Arrow — 12 October 1912

AMONG THE JUNIORS. (By 'RAMBLER.') In the Martin Shield games on Monday somo very promising form was shown by several of tbe Juniors. Co.itennlal Park were outclassed by Moore Park, who hit up about 35o (the score books varied). Lee's 120 was a bright Innings marked by many crisp off-strokes, especially between point and third man; ho hit 17 fours and 3 oixes. Centennial Park wcro deficient in bowling, though Kpsteln3, wbo got six for 72. was in line form. This team at one period had lost six wickets for 12 runf, but Dobson aud Smith put on SS for the seventh wicket. Dobson, who batted soundly for G7, lo strong on tho off-oMo. Smith wa3 a trifle less safe, and seemed more affected by the change from the matting to the turf, but later in his innlfign bo showed many cricp strokes. In his 71 not out wcro y fourj. GEORGE BONNOR, HITTER. [Newspaper Article] — Saturday Referee and the Arrow — 12 October 1912

GEORGE BONNOR, HITTER. (Dy SYDNEY II. VAKfcON, in the London 'Sunday TfcKCJ.') I nm afraid the world had not of late years gone at nil well with George Bonnor. When, a couple jf months ago. 1 aikcd o member cf the I'Mfcent Australian team about him, tho reply was not nt all encouraging. Still, I was not told that his health had broken n:»«l I take it that lilt* death was more 40' leu-i st,ddcn. Few (Mc.keters of hi3 generation jifi so vividly remembered. He was last tcet.* ju an EuglUh cricket Held In the season of IbW, but people who saw him play In tbose now rather far-off days never cease to talk about him. Ho wn» nut a man to be readily forgotten, hi3 more prcsencu making him the most striking figure ln any company in which he found himself. -It was not perhaps a great crickctcr, but 03 u hitter pure and simple ho never *J.vl a rival i.ueit C. THE FINAL TEST MATCH. [Newspaper Article] — Saturday Referee and the Arrow — 12 October 1912

THE FINAL TEST MATCH. I England's victory over Australia at the Oval brought tho Test matches to nn end. Whether tho Triangular Tournament be regarded as a whole or no three separate rubbers, the result is conclusive. . . . The general rczult Is in ftrlet accordance with tie merits of the three countries on this Reason's form. I think wo should have won quite as readily in u fine Summer, but tho continuous wet wc.uhir has been much against tho Australians, so many ot their new men being essentially hard wicket players. Personally, I have no wish to mai:c too much of the victory at tho Oval. Speaking quite frjjkly, it would bhve been rather humiliating to to beaten by a team which, despite tho prcscneo ox Bardslcy and Macartney Is so far from representing tho full strength of Australia. The domestic sc.uabhlcs in Australin liavo brought their own punlsh mcn. I am not concerned as to whether tbo Australian Board of Control behaved *n too autocratic a way, or whether tho six crack play...

THE SOUTH AFRICANS' TOUr] IN ENGLAND. | Financially Disastrous. MR. G. ALLSOP, THE MANAGER OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM, EXPLAINS WHY TIIK RESULTS HAVE NOT REALISED EXPECTATIONS. \ CUy G.W.S. In the 'Spcrticg Life.') I It is not my provlaco to deal with thc tour of thc South African cricket team ln its gene ral aspect, or from a statistical point of view. That will be dono in due courso, but now that ] the team has concluded Its Testa Is an oppor- I tunc moment to take stock of thc portion, to ' discover If possible why. when pitted against England and Australia, the display of tho South Africans was not of sufficient all-round excel lence to enable them to secure a solitary vic tory. One thins is absolutely cortaln— that the team captatnel by Frank Mitchell has proved Itself to bo a body of line sportsmen, and when they leave England next month they will leave behind an Impression of which they may well be proud. Only five seconds separated first j and second boatP, the third being a minute b-j- j hind. Nothing could have proved more detrimental i , from an ntteudance nolnt of view to thc Bal maln Regatta of 1012 than thc Inability of thc coinmlttoe to procure a suitable flagship. And tho fact had the cfTcct of even lessening the , largo crowds that usually congrcgato on tho ; foreshores on thrse occasions.
