JUDG:ilENT BEILONGS ONLY TO GOD. --0 - One jiiortion of Holy W'it which men seem to be 'in the hiabit of over looking or taking little notice of, is that part of the Epistlo of the Romans r in which Paulis inspired to ivrite these impressive' words,-- ,Threfo'rd thou art inexcusable, 0 man, whosoever 1 "thou art thatj judg~et, fr wlirein thou I jud,; st another thou condemnest thy self, for t! o i that" judgest doest the s:ame tY:n.s,' Mea are ever. ready to judge and condemn one another, t) set themselves up as judges :'f their fellows, and to plas pharisai:al condemnations upon others. Nothing ais more com i?on than this. Anionig religionists this. judging, pliarisiicspirit is..manifested very plainly; they loo1 upon themselves as a oery superior class of beings, and they lock outside the pale of the •:hurches for.the sihiners and evil-doers,' and, look dowi uipon and. condemn thlcm. The Advertiser. FRIDAY, MAY 16, 1884. [Newspaper Article] — Euroa Advertiser and Violet Town, Longwood, Avenel, Strathbogie, Balmattam and Miepoll Gazette — 16 May 1884

FRIDAY; MAY 16, 1884 < A specimien of Indian grass cloth plant has been left at our office by Mr Meade of Longwood. '. It is -put to a variety of uses in India. A fibre .which it yields is used in makitg cloth. Ex cellent paper is also made fronm it. Mr Meade obtained the plant with a number of others' from Dr Schomburgk of the Adelaide Botanic gardens. It appears to be quite at home in this district. The terrible, effect of the long con tinued drought in New South Wales, is clearly shown by the. fact that truck loads of fat sheep and cattle are passing up the line bound for Sydney market. This is the first time in the 'history of the colony .we think, tihat Sydn'ey has had to draw supplies of fat stock from, the Melbourne market. It is antici "pated that the prices of sheep and cattle, both store and fat, will rule very high during the, coming winter and spring. Messrs J. H. Teague and Co. held another very -u c :ssful sale of cattle ini their new yards on Thursday and F...

BADDAGINNIE AND WARRENBAYNE. [Newspaper Article] — Euroa Advertiser and Violet Town, Longwood, Avenel, Strathbogie, Balmattam and Miepoll Gazette — 16 May 1884

BADDAGINNIE AND         WARRENBAYNE.   On Wednesday an investigation aris- ing out of the recent County Court action at Benalla--Jones v. Richards--took place at the Public Hall, Baddaginnie. The enquiry was held by direction of the Railway Commissioners, and as the re- porters were excluded I cannot send you any report of the evidence. About 18 witnesses were examined and by far the majority testified that they had never seen Mr Jones intoxicated or incapab!e of attending to his duty, but had always found him a civil, obliging, and attentive   officer. The result of the investigation will be made known in a few days. The farmers are jubilant at having re- ceived the rain, and are now entering into ploughing operations with great vigor. Mr Dunlop despatched his bullock team for a log of wood the other day and whilst the bullocks were in the bottom of a drain the log gave such a severe lurch that it felled ...

The Panmure Murder.     THE PRISONER SENTENCED   TO DEATH. The trial of Henry Morgan for the   murder of Margaret Nolan, at Panmure, in November last, was continued at the Assize Court, before Mr. Justice Higinbotham, on Saturday. No evi- dence was called for the defence. The Crown prosecutor (Mr. J. T. T. Smith) addressed the jury for about an hour; and Mr. M'Dermnott's speech in defence   of the prisoner ocupied two hours and,     a half in summing up, dealing exhaus-   tively and minutely with the evidence.       He pointed out that the prisoner   had called no witnesses nor offered   any explanation of the circumstances which connected him with the murder, relying only on the weakness of the evidence aduced by the prosecution.       The summing up of the judge was adverse to...
