Accident to a Council Official [Newspaper Article] — Malvern and Caulfield Standard — 27 October 1906

Accident to a Council Official I We.very much regret having to I report a painini accident that hap pened to Mr John Jeans, junior clerk in the employ of the St. Kilda council, on Saturday afternoon last. Mr Jeans, when assisting in the work of decorating the library room for a social evening, fell from a ladder, and sustained a compound frac ture of the right leg. He was conveyed to his home, where he was subsequently attended by Drs O'Hara ana Edie. Mr Jeans' mis hap will confine him to bis borne tor many weeks. At the council meeting on Monday evening much sympathy was expressed towards the sufferer. Cr Stedeford said the accident was very unfortunate for Mr Jeans, who was a fine youne fellow. He trusted,' however, that Mr Jeans would en tirely recover his health. He moved that Mr Jeans be paid his usual salary, say, for the next month. Gr Barnet seconded the motion, which was agreed to unanimously.

South Tarra Rifle Glub OCTOBER COMIMÍTITION. The monthly competition for October, which included 7 rounds at 200 and 500 yards, was concluded last week at the Post Melbourne range. The "invisible bull" re cently adopted by the department at these shott distances had the effect of throwing most of the competitors who for the first time experienced same out of their bearings, and in consequence the shooting all round this month proved much below tbe usual standard. The winner (Mr J, L. Moorhead), who showed improv ing form at the longer distance, finished well in advance for best score from the shoulder.
