Forecast of Legislation. DECISIONS OE CABINET. Tho Cabinet held a meeting on 'Wednesday evening, at which the work of the coining session, to com mence on 'Wednesday next, was under consideration. The Cabinet discussed Ihe form of the speech, and decided that the Parliament should be asked to go on with certain work now ac an advanced stage. Amongst the measures which it is anticipated will be got through ore tho Mining ou Private Property Bill and the Bank Notes Bill. PRIZEFIGHT. Groat excitement is shown in sport ing circles in the approaching fight between Jim Corbett, American cham pion, and Charlie Mitchell, the Eng lish pugilist. The fight has been arranged to tako nlace at Jacksonville. Florida, but with a view to the match coming off despite any opposition that might be offered by the authorities at Jackson ville the articles were recently signod binding the principals to fight any where in Florida. ? The contest for the championship of the world and a stake of £6000 will take place on Thursday, Japuary 25. Corbett at present is a strong fa vorite, tho betting being 100 to 80 on him.

SHOOTING TRAGEDY. ! A terrible shooting tragedy oc curod iu London this afternoon, where two persons, a solicitor and a woman are reported to b.o in a dying con dition. It appears that a solicitor named Jacobs had been engaged by a mn n Mmivl T.™,^ l-„ ,1..„™ „„ deeds relating to some property, and au interview between the two was proceeding in the presence of Mrs Lyndhurst, when a quarrel arose re garding the deods, and. without a mo ment's warning Lyndhurst drew a revolver and pointing it at his wife fired, wounding her fatally. He immediately turned upon Jacobs and fired again, the second shot also taking deadly cffect. The wounded persona are still alive, but no hopes of recovery are enter tained; Lyndhurst has been arrested.
