YIGTORMH FINANCE. The Victorian Assembly (says the ' Evening News') mnit be more of a terror to the Victorian Treasurer than are Assemblies to Treasurers In general. No sooner does Mr Tur ner's Government inform its Agent General by cable that the fall in its bonds on -tbe London Stock ExohaDge is quite causeless and absurd, than the Assembly makes the most perseVerirg and elaborate attempt to increase the deficit. The Govern ment has done its best to shake confidence abroad by proposing an income tax, which will weigh with extra severity on all British and out side companies having offices in Mel bourne or elsewhere .south of the Murray; bat .the Assembly is not to be left behind. Yesterday Mr Brake moved that the railway frieghts and fares on the eonntry lines should be decreased 20 per cent., the .deficit if any to be made good by direct taxa tion, say by imposing five percent, on selectors' overdue rents, which on £64(1,000 would bring in £32,000 per annnm. I am sorry to report o serions. disaster its falling William Davis, of Wendouree, his machinery shed and stables, which were about the largest in the neighbourhood, measuring CO z 40 feet, having been, totaly destroyed by fire ababout 3 o'clock on Friday raorniug. The previous day they had been ocoupied in burning stubble, everything was left safe xt sundoivu, and ttere was no sign of fire visible after dork. Tbe man sleeping in the abed lor the night was awakened by tue roar of names overhead, aud tbe roof, which was a straw one, in a few minutes was all on fire. Nothiug oould besavedalhougb the shed contained a new stripper and win nower, a reaper and binder, wagon, dray, harness, firmiat' and carpenters tools, and 153 bags of wheat, and several sundries, being a workshop as I stable as well as a sh d.
