ALFORD ROAD. TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 15 August 1888

ALFOBD ROAD. TO THE EDITOE. SIB,-Since Councillor Crosby bas been returned many meetings of the Council have been held, and consequently the heavy traffic on the Alford road has put it in a frightful state. Would it not pay the ratepayers to supply this councillor with an office copy of the Acts of Parlia ment and the repealed Acts, so as to pre vent the carting of his copies to and fro. Probably it may be the intention of Cr Cowley to move in this matter. Quite time '' The Width of Tires Act" was put into force. If Cr Crosby looks up the law he will find, that there is no exemp tion for a Councillor under this Act. I am, &c., RATEPAYER.

BOUNDARIES OF DISTRICTS. (TO THE EDITOR.) [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 15 August 1888

BOUNDARIES OF DISTRICTS. (TO THE EDITOR.) SIB,-John Keid's remarks re the abore in yours of the 4th inBt., is worthy of notice. Especially is this the case with the district of Ninoeg, who ere about to build a Council Chamber. Slow, sir, I think it would ,be wise on,the part of the Conned, to.;defer the building until the Boundary question has, been definitely settled. Au it is well known and acknowledged that Tickera has no -right - to be in the district of Ninnea. Their interest sot being in the slightest identical [ with onrs, further than this Tickera f earns to draw her clearance "from us. Jor one wonld assist her in doing so tojoinKadina, Our' best course' would be to join Kulpara as Mr Eeid suggested. i.e.,toinclude the wliole the Hd. of Kul para. Mr field omitted to say anything about Wiltanga who is a part and parcel of ourselves. It would, be unmanly to efrpvr tbem the cold 'shoulder without first giripg # reason for so doing. Personally ! would $e in favour of taking .the...

FOOTBALL. MOONTA MIKES TUBES v. WALLABOO MINES TURKS. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 15 August 1888

FOOTBALL. MOONTA MIKES TUBES V. WALLABOO MIKES TUBES. The dozen Wallaroo Mines Turks who arrived were so late that half an hoar had to be taken off at the end to finish by daylight- Aa only 13 including a substi tute player, and these not all regular players, the game was in the main kicking practice for the home team. Out of 20 shots they only kicked 7. goals and 13 behinds, two of which were touched going through. Sands for the visitors scored a goal in the second quarter and this was the only time the ball was in kicking distance. The chief feature of the play was the running with the ball, which was indulged in to a great extent. For the winners Thomas, who had a day out, .played the best game on the ground, assisted by Brown, Fault, Schwann, Clark, Sampson, Richards and Metherell. For the losers Sands, Carty (2), and Nankirell (2) played well, . Those who played deserre praise for their pluck and though greatly outnumbered they kept the pace from start to finish. Owing to a mis...

LOCAL EXHIBITIONS. TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 15 August 1888

LOCAL EXHIBITIONS. TO THE EDITOE. SIB,-As the time for holding the local show at Xadioa is drawing nigh, may I be allowed to suggest to the Com mittee of management the advisability of having a public trial of etump-jnmping ploughs sometime previous to the date on which tbe annual show is to be held. I think it will be admitted by almost every one that the system which has obtained in the past,-namely, judging agricultural implements (and stump-jumping ploughs in particular) standing on the show ground has been far from satisfactory, and I think, Sir, it will readily be conceded that a field trial would give the farmer a better opportunity of judging for him self which is the better implement, and it would also enable the maker to see the weak point in his plough. Another point I think well worthy of attention is the fact of allowing implements to be painted when competing for a prize. I am strongly of opinion that if painted implements (stump jumping ploughs in particular) was proh...
