The selection consisted largely of medium class wools, many of which were heavy in the grease, skirty and tick-stained, and, on the whole, the catalogue was considerably below the average of former oH'erings. During the whole of tins season war elouda and political disturbances have been continually menacing the market, and it has been a matter of considerable sur prise that the level of values has been bo well maintained. During (lie holiday season signs of an improving market became apparent, ami at the sale on Tuesday there was a distinct advanco in values, which may be set down as follows : - For good to superior wools (greasy and scoured), par to 5 per cent. ; well-skirted greasy merino and line to superiine crossbred, 5 to 7i per cent. ; -skirty and otherwise faulty greasy rueiino, 2J per cent. ; scoure...

Pastoral Finance Association, Limited. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 13 January 1899

Pastoral Finance Association, Limited The sales after the holidays were resumed on Monday, when the quantities available were materially reduced as compared with those of former years at this time, pointing to tho pro bability of a considerable decrease of the clip when tho end of the wool year arrives some months hcnce. No doubt, in anticipation of a shortage, tho demand for medium n erinos from, sivy, 7d to 9Jd, and crossbreds from Oid to 8£d, showed a distinct rise when compared with the sales closing last month. Super wools ranging from 9Jd and over, as well aB low grade wools and faulty, i p to 6Jd, show little change. - Tho want of American competition and the extreme prices ruling for tho latter at beginning of season no doubt explains the un altered position. Our catalogue, of 2,598 bales, on Tuesday, tho 10th, contained somo choice wools from Now England, Yass, Barraba, Stuart Town, j Inverell, Cootamundra, and Tamworth dis tricts. The Ivghest priced wool we wore able to di...
