The Drivar's story. [Newspaper Article] — Stawell News and Pleasant Creek Chronicle — 13 January 1914

The Driy.r's itory - Seen at his residence, Stawell, by a " News " representative cm Sunday afternoon, the driver, Mr I'rou'beck, was deeply affected by the tragedy. His narrative, th ongh brief, was i>h follows:—"Wo Mt Stawell for Dim boola on a light eng'ite, passing Murtoa about 11 o'clock. It was noi the clearest of nights, for the moon, though up, was nften obsuured by clouds. Some two-and-a-half or three miles past Murton, when we were travelling at ahou' 10 miles ao hour, I felt the engine hit Horn thing, and got the brakes on to her at once. We got down and went back along the lina. I shall never forget the eight—Mrs Ferry (who had been dragged on a little way) was quite dead, and the poor, multi lated little children were screaming in agony. The husband stood like a dazed man beside his wrecked trolly It was horrible. 1 can't talk about it any more: I haven't slept since. It was my first smash."
