VARIETY A GOOD SHOT! One of the best shots I ever heard of was made with a percussion gun. About 10 or 12 years ago an Eastern Shore vessel was frozen up in this river, and her provisions being .exhausted, the captain went on shore to" see how the land laid;" in other words to make a. reconnoisanco of hen roosts.— Old Mrs. -, whowas celebrated for the number of her _demestic fowls, _ccjild not bargain with the captain for any of his "as*- sorted cargo;" at length.he agreed to give a silver dollar for a shot among the poultry, and agreed to shoot a gun without a flint—this was accepted by the old lady, provided she loaded the gun, which she stipulated to do fairly. Whereas, the Constitution of the United States and some of their principal institutions have been assailed oflato by the local passions.which interfere with great national measures, and a solemn declaration of tho sense of this Legislature may tend to preserve unimpaired that Union which is the rock of our safety and prosperity.
