This is the only thing necessary to succeed . It , may be all right to know when you are whipped , but it is a great misijj take to find it out too soon . Time is money you 6 ant borrow , so , to banish all your sorrow , dont put off . until to-morrow ; do it now . Good apples are selling in Chicago for 50 cents a peck , while they are rotting on the ground in Missouri . ¦ Prices are regulated by supply and demand , but the cost of distribution is a very strong factor in the case . There are lots of helpless individuals in this world , and we should all be thankful that we dont belong to that class . CURRENT EVENTS . [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 December 1906

CURRENT EVENTS . A more practical educational curriculum is demanded in city schools and countrydistricts are urging the teaching of agricultural subjects . Teachers are fighting both these propositions on the ground that true education should lead along lines directly opposite to the practical side of life , because an all around , evenly balanced mind must have the corners rubbed off of every side . Old educators claim that noth- ^ uTPS ^ 5 _ S !! L- / f i . _ BI _ 3 iStBT / iiiileges . It may not be necessary to teach trades in city schools in order to point the pupil in the rig ht direction to earn a living . The proposition is rather startling , although we may come to that yet . But the teaching of agriculture is a different proposition , altogether . The most intensely interesting life study is the study of life . Pope put it in another way in his famous axiom , the proper study of mankind is man . Pope was rig ht in his day and wo are still unable to get away from the propos...

THE value of a manure spreader is not so much in the saving of labor as it is in the even , careful distribution of a valuable product . In this connection we herewith give a paragraph from an article in Column s Rural World , which seems to hit the nail on tho head very forcibly : Manure Is not the most profitable when applied as heavily as the farmer finds it convenient to throw It from the wagon , oven lf lie lias enough to cover all of his land in this manner , which is very seldom the case . This does not mean that the leaf growth of any following crop will not he Increased in proportion to the amount , applied . But It does mean that in order to make the following crop as productive of seed as it Is of foliage , larger quantities of phosphorous and potassium must be applied , and on the average Missouri farm this Is not usual . 1 rogress along this line shoul...

VARIATIONS in tlie richness ! of separator cream may be caused by changes in the temperature of the milk , changes in speed of separator bowl , variation of the amount of milk run through the separator in a given time , or the amount of skim milk or water used to flush the bowl when through separating . Some one of these reasons probably accounts for tho variation in the test of cream • when the cream screw has not been changed . To have the best results it is necessary to separate at the same temperature , with the same speed and flow of milk each time . Even then the richness of the cream as it comes from the cows will have some effect on the final product . Generally speaking the higher the temperature the richer the cream , and the lower the temperature the less will be the per cent of fat shown in the cream . A separator that will ...
