I ON THE CULTURE OF TOBACCO . [ By WILLIAM WE VTHFHKKI > , Inspector of ToHaving been solicited often by very many to give my views on the culture and management of Tobacco—having had much experience in raising , buying , selling , shipping and inspecting—these combined , enable me to speak from experience—hoping that what is herein contained , may prove to be for the interest of the planter first , and then to all concerned . For I do assure you that I have no other motive in view . The growing and management of Tobacco in the western country formally- years , have been a source of regret to purchasers in the market at New Orleans , as well as in many places in which it is vended in the United Siiites , iiml over Europe where it is sold , lining to neglect , or some other cause . The following curious paragraph is from t e Westminster Review , for July last . We s lallsoon see if the writer proves to be a prophet . T e event w ich will be sure to cause the explosion of the fraud which has been practised on the friends of liberty , in France , will he any marked misfortune to the Polish caase . T e Poles are , clearly , the inheritors of the mantle of Napoleon , but with He odds that are against them , t : ey , still , may fail . If this should happen , there must . by force , be a Republic of 1793 in France , though it may cn ^ nce be too late . For , to expect a nation to act under a Government w ich sends a regiment to Algiers for refusing to fire on t e people , would be a drivelii . g . — Those , t erefore , in all countries , w o wish for a republic of 1793 , have onljv to resist assistance to the Poles .

[ From the M noi ri Etepobliom . J EFFECTS OF THE TARIFF . —The facts stated i i I are undeniable . They are worth thousands of the specious theories advanced by the advocates for the importation of foreign goods ? in preference to protecting and building up manufactures in our own country . In connection v \ ith the subject it may be well to Slate , on the authority of data communicated to the Tariff Convention , that more than 121 , 000 tons of iron are annually manufactured in the United States . at a value exceeding twelve millions of dollars . Of this sum , it is calculated that seven millions are expended for labor—and the whole is confined to our own country . But even the aggregate sum is much increased by its constant circulation through the ordinary channels Of trade—the money being- turned many times in the course of the year . Thus every portion of the community is benefited by the protection afforded to the American manufacturer , against the giant competition of ...

The queen , treated her in such a manner as to evince in the circle of the court , a determination to discountenance doubtful characters , even in the highest tank , which was so deservedly lauded in the demeanor of Queen Charlotte . It is a coincidence , worthy of comment , that wide the royal family of Great Britain is endeavoring to raise the tone of puhlic morals in Great Britain , the President of the U .
