Hit k PROGRESS. The Life of tke LauJ is Establishes in RigkUousxess. - HONOLULU, OCT. 21, 1893. TOPICS OF THE DAY. So Thurston tbo Tcnegade American-Hawaii n, Oloson the Ilovcrond. ami Armstrong the rouogatlo nobody, approve of and advocate the prompt eviction of all Royalists from the Provi sional Camp, or in other words "fire them ont of office." That sounds very good and smart. coming from those who have left tho'couutrv and who never intend to roturn to it again. Star Smith, says, "as for the Court of inquiry, that must pass for a political burlesque." Yery good, then an holding of Court by our present Chief J nstice and two or three of his satellites must bo placed on the samo looting. If the Star does not know it, then it must be made iiwaro of tho fact, that tho Naval Court lately called by H. B. M's. Minister Resident is as legally organized a Court, as any Court, convened under tho Constitution of the Hawaiian Kingdom, nucl presided over by the Chief Justice. The Tro Budget...

ANNEXATION. The question of annexation is now a dead issue. The insane freak of the junta of fiUbnsterers and wonld-be annexationists last January, is expiring a natural death. The P. G. abortion con ceived in political prostitution, born in American dishonor, and adopted by fools will soon bo buried in an oblivion that Trill stink for a generation. The men who fathered it will, and must bo, upon the restoration of legi timate government in Hawaii, cast aside and given severely to .understand that they have be come political impossibilities in this country. The best thinkers in America have expressed their views against the annexation of Hawaii from even point of view, and the wise statesmanship of President Cleveland has saved the United States from committing a politi cal crime that would stain her uatioual honor, and fix a pre cedent that would lead to many other nnploasant complications. Hawaii flixumm PROGRESS. The Life of the Land is Establishes in RigkUausness. HONOLULU, OCT. 24, 1S93. TOPICS OF THE DAY. The article in this paper of yo3terday commenting on Admir al Skorrett, was correspondence, and by a mistake appeared as Editorial. It is sufficient for us to say, tbat tho article does not express the views of the Editor, and ho can only regret its appear ance. Tho Star has got another at tack of tho spoils disease and domands tho scalps of those government officials who are not active annexationists and mem bora of tho club. We shall not waste our space by ro argaing thostalo propositions, but we are obligod to pass a few remarks in regard to tho insinuations in which tho Star indulges against certain officials on account of an item which appeared in tho HoLoiio.v referring to a little altercation which took placo last week bo tweon Dr. McGrew and Minister Damon. ANNEXATION. III. In the consideration of this subject in its third most import ant aspect, let us briefly sum marize the exact relation of people and affairs in Hawaii. The 2.14 jnr cent, of American men, women and children, who are arrogating the right to con trol this country, are but an in significant fraction of the whole population, and only a fraction of the white population, who by a large majority are not enamour ed of the pretensions of the little, American clique of conceited filibusterers. Noitbor are the sugar planta tions, which 'represent Hawaii's wealth, owned principally by the gruesome percent. Compiled tables that aro extant, show that the British and German interesis exceed the American by a con siderable amount. Furthermore, the larger half of capital invested hero, whether under American, British or German ownership, may properly be called Hawaiian capital. Under a fostering care of our monarchial government which cost the tax-payers hun dreds of thousands of do...

TOPICS OF THE DAY. - Tho Advertiser comes oat thi3 morning with n threatening article to Mr. Theo. H. Dairies, who is expected to arrive here by the Mariposa. Mr. Johnstone who cditcs tho Adverstiser under the inspiration of tho Castle- clique warns Mr. Davies that croat disaster will befall him if the rolls of the Annexation Club, nor his support back of their party. If the question of annexation is to be dependent on a Tote of tho men representing capital as advocated by the Star and the Advertiser, Messrs. The Investor and His Rights. The "Star" with its usual im pudent audacity, has been trying to make political bngbear out of certain statistical figures on the nationality of capital invested here in corporation enterprises com piled for partisan purposes by the missionary descendant Thomas & Thrum" "Starry" Smith calls his crazy lucubrations on the matter, "the Investor and his rights," and he starts by assert ing that the said statistics of cor porations, show "the extent to which native and half-castHawa-iiajjs are pirtnors in the OW2f ERSHIP of their Country." The moral of Smith's postulate is ovidontly that the investor of capital has an inherent right to own the country in which he deigns to invest, in other words, that an investor of money in a concern or speculation thereby, owns, not only that concern, but also tuo Universo in which the concern happens to be located. Thus, supposing Smith to have invested money which God for bid! in the Star Newspaper Co., this would eut...

PROGRESS. The Life of the Land is Establiskta in Righteousness. HONOLULU. OCT. 2G. 1S93. TOPICS OF THE DAY. The btar has even excellea itself in the line of vile1 inde cency by allowing something which signs itself Justice to pnb- lish a most cowardly and con tcmptiblo attack on the Queen. Justice whoever, it is (we are or a man) bases this latest nn- callod for attack on the Queen on the lotterv bnsiness. Wo should pay no attontion to the letter of Justice if it wasn't a good example of tho bigotry and inconsistency of the gang which spends its time in deriding at. and abusing the Queen. The Lottery Bill was passed in tho .Legislature ana uecanio law. it was then presented to the Queen for Her signature and she was advised by Her cabinet to sign it. Continued from first page.) ation. Tbero is a higher author ity than any treaty tho Consti tution of the United States. And that Constitution according to onr best jurists, gives to all in habitants of this country, citizens or aliens, the right to pass un molested from one end of our domain to the other. By annex ation Hawaii becomes a part of the United States, and her inhabitants entitled to at least tho rights of aliens, and therefore the right of residence in our midst Hawaii onco annexed will be come, whon delivered from the ills of Territorial Government, one of the States in this Union. But a State separated from tho Union to which it belongs by 2000 miles of ocean travel, so far distant that it ever must remain as foreign as if it were what it is to-day a separate, and independ ent nation.
