The pen alty for default to give that bond was six months impris onment, and all efforts to get the prisoner out on bond up to that time had been unavail ing. It will be remembered that Dave McDonald discover ed Vresinsky, on Friday night, July 6th, at about 7 o'clock, weltering in'his blood, which was flowing freely from a ghastly wound he had inflicted upon his throat. gtest Adj ci a Sentinel. A DEIMOORATIO PAPER PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY. THE ONLY PAPER IN THE PARISH S.; LAMBERT. .. PROPRIETOR J. p. A USTEN ..................Editor 8. O. RHEA ................. Publisher St. Faranisville Aug.4, 'T7 RIVER NEWS. -The MiBssissippi at this point continues to fall very rapidly. We notice that the cave at the foot of Prin cipal st., Bayou Sara, has received, dur the late high water, a very large depos it which seems to be of such a character as will probably prevent any further in road on the part of the river for at least some time to come. The old wharf-boat, C. T. Dumont, sank directly in the upper part of the cave, and the wreck has been the means conjointly with the eddy oc casioned by the new wharf-boat lying immediately above, of accumulating the sediment. This is a fortunate circum stance, for the river seriously threatened to cut off communication wfth Principal street, by way of Levee, and also endan gered property in that vicinity. The repairs...

West tdticiaa $utat intl THE SILENT CAPTAIN. How 8tONxWALL JAcKson SLEPT -His SINGULAR RETICEsCE. [Philadelphia Weekly Times] Gen. Jackson's troops and his enemies believed he never slept; the fact is he slept a great dMal. Whenever he had noth ing else to do be went to sleep, especially in church. I remem ber during the invasion of Mary land one Sunday night he rode three miles in an ambulance to attend church in Frederick, and then fell asleep as soon as the minister be gan to preach; his head fell upon his breast, and he never awoke nu til aroused by the organ and choir. He could sleep anywhere and in any position, sitting in his chair, under fire, or on horseback. On a night march toward Rich mond, after the battles with McClellan, he was riding along with his drowsy staff, nodding and sleeping as he went. We passed by groups of men on the roadside, engaged in roasting new corn by fires made of -fence-rails. One group took us for cavalrymen, with an inebriated captain, and one o...
