Y ft i ie ffueumcari UNews And Tucumcari Times. Volume 4. No. 22 TUCUHCARl, NEW MEXICO, SATURDAY. MARCH 16, 1907. Subscription $i.co a year. A DRY GOOD S ARGUMENT. It should be every good citizen's business to boost his town to sup port its industries, to make it grow and thrive and prosper. It's to the business interest, however, that the people look for leadership in such matters; to the merchant, the man ufacturer and the publisher, and if results are to be accomplished these must work together, must pull as one man, must support the efforts of each other. Occasionally you will find a town in which seemingly every sense of duty to the cummunity on the part of the business men of the place seems to be dead. They will not bestir themselves in the interest of the town or themselves for, after all, when a merchant works for his town's interests he is working for his own interests, and this brings us to our little story we wanted to tell. In the southern part of Illinois is a town whe...

A TEST OF NERVE. 0c of the Wnj'd In Wliloh Imllntift Duel to tin Death. AmoiiK the Indlnn tribes the method of lighting duels differs. There are nonie tribes when; n chnlleiiKO to a duel moans Inevitably that both men must die. When an Indian feels aggrieved he demands a combat. The day for the same is fixed far in advance and la made tho occasion of a little celebra tion. The entire tribe assembles. The braves sit in a circle, behind them their hijuiiws and the young bucks. The offended man is armed with a rifle or a shotgun. The challenged principal is unarmed. At a word both men arise and face each other, the un armed man baring his breast to the , bullet of his adversary. With eyes riveted on the little round hole at the end of the barrel pointed at him, the doomed man must face the protracted ordeal of expecting death at any In-1 stant without the least sign of weak ening. QUAY COUNTY SCHOOLS. To tilt; Tucumc.'iri News : Gentlemen: ! For some times I have intended to write a few words for publication in our highly appreciated weekly forlinformation to the people of Quay county concerning our public schools. I have the honor to tell my con stituents that up to this date the schools of our county have been doing splendidly considering the existing circumstances. Most of our school districts are at present too large in territory to be possible to accomodate all the children, some residing a long dis tance from the location of the school house, making it impossible for them to attend school, and at the same time depriving them of the benefits they could obtain from the school fund if our situation was a little different. I have been compelled to grant some permits to teachers in the county in order to supply the great demand that we have for them at the present time. Nevertheless, I can say to our people that I, by no means regret having granted such perm...
