m v A young woman (Marisa L. Gonzalez, center) comes between two brothers (J.R. Ramirez, left, and Marco Rodriguez) in "Cloud Tectonics" at Kitchen Dog Theater. but it does move at a tiny crawl. She looks like a very pregnant 20-something, but she claims to be in her 50s who's been carrying the fetus for several years. ''Are years longer than days?" she innocently asks. That sounds idiotic to Anibal (Marco Rodriguez), a baggage handler at LAX who res- cues Celestina from a massive rainstorm. But Anibal is amused by Celestina's childlike obser- vations, even though he at first dismisses them as nonsense. Soon, however^ Anibal realizes his life really is moving in slow motion — years pass in sec- onds without anyone noticing. His brother (J.R. Ramirez) steps outside for what seems like min- utes, but when he returns months have gone missing. Is this what true love is supposed to be like? "Cloud Tectonics" isn't a long play, but the playwright, Jose Rivera, pushes the outer edge of how...

life+styletravel Southwestern enchantment Albuquerque offers an affordable and funky queer vacation option By Andrew Collins Contributing Travel Writer New Mexico's largest city, set dramatically at the base of the Sandia Mountains, is an afford- able base for exploring the Land of Enchantment. Albuquerque lies 60 miles south of Santa Fe and within an afternoon's drive of countless Indian pueblos, beautiful hiking and biking spots and chal- lenging ski areas. The Duke City (named for its founder, the Duke of Albuquerque) enjoys a sunny, mild climate. It's also home to New Mexico's only gay bars and a handful of gay- owned B&Bs and eateries. Throughout 2006, Albuquerque cel- ebrates its tricentennial with per- formances, events and museum exhibits that trace its vibrant history. Albuquerque's once-dull down- town has recently undergone an ambitious revitalization, with new shops, restau- rants and bars along or near the main drag, Central Avenue between Second and Eighth streets ...

you can sample her cuisine at Graze, which spe- cializes in affordable tapas-style small plates (she also owns the more formal Restaurant Jennifer James, a few miles north). Across the street, the upscale Gruet Steak House is run by the city's acclaimed Gruet Winery, which produces sparkling wines, pinot noirs and chardonnays. Pre-clubbing gays and straights mix it up at sophisticated Martini Grille, which is lauded as much for its tasty American fare as for the fancy drinks served up in the snazzy cocktail bar. Hang out among University of New Mexico students at II Vicino, which serves wood-fired pizzas and calzones. Sit on El Patio tree-shaded lanai for authentic (and fiery) New Mexican cooking. The no-frills Frontier Restaurant is a 24/7 institution famed for its breakfast burritos and cinnamon buns — it's a real scene after the clubs close. Another must-do in Albuquerque is coffee and dessert at Flying Star, a bakery, coffeehouse and wine bar all rolled into one, with five loca-...

life+stylebooks Skewering the rich and famous Hollywood insider sends up industry's foibles in triumphant return novel By J.S.Hall Contributing Writer "My Lucky Star," by Joe Keenan. (Little, Brown, 2006) 368 pp., $24.95. After more than a 10- year absence — during which he wrote and pro- duced the sitcom "Frasier" — Joe Keenan returns to the fiction trade with "My Lucky Star." In his author's notes, Keenan says television "offers handsome remu- neration but very little downtime." Fortunately, the end result is worth the wait. Keenan chronicles the misadventures of hap- less writer Philip Cavanaugh and inveterate schemer Gilbert Selwyn. And in the process, he skewers Hollywood's rich and famous. Philip and Gilbert at the anti-heroes of Keenan's former novels "Blue Heaven" and "Putting on the Ritz." The twosome, along with their trusty gal-pal and perennial savior Claire Simmons, are about to hit it big in Tinseltown, thanks to a successful (but not very well-read) producer who wants...

Why are GLBT family issues important to you? M|t-partner, Wendy North Jones, and I have two children, boys ages 3-and-a-half and 20 months. When you look at your kids, you think about what the world will be like when they grow up, and you want to do something to make it better. Why ale you involved with the Dallas/Fort Worth Federal Club? Jtlmtie, re members of the Federal Club before, but when we started having the babies, we had to readjust some priorities, financial and otherwise. But with some of the losses our communi- ty has suffered lately, like the anti-gay-marriage amendment, we decided it was time to get back into the organization. dossier Kanye hooks up with gay producer When rapper Kanye West speaks, people lis- ten. Whether it's as the creator of huge-selling hip- hop singles like ''Gold Digger" or as an off-the- cuff political spokesperson (In 2005, he publicly chastised the president's response to Hurricane Katrina and came out against homophobia in hip- hop), the man is leaving his mark. Now he's headed to the big screen with gay executive producer George C. Wolfe. The planned musical feature will incorporate about six writers and up to a dozen directors. each contributing a short film stalling West and all linked to a central narra- tive. Wolfe is the vet- eran Broadway producer and Kanye West direct# of the Emmy-winning HBO film "Lackawanna Blues." He'll over- see the creative process, and West will handle the music. And now that Three Six Mafia has an Oscar, West's original music should be a lock for a future nomination. Faris' 'Smiley Face' "Scary Movie" and "Just Friends" star Anna Faris is so funny...
