FIRES. [Newspaper Article] — Independent — 5 January 1884

Fanned by the strong wind an intense heat was evolved and the iron roof glowed reds and white, finally col lapsing. In the building was a quantity of very valuable mach...

The Last. [Newspaper Article] — Independent — 5 January 1884

The Last. ON more than one occasion recently .we, were induced-foolishly1 it, must be Admitted-to notice and' correct .mis statements, which appeared in certain papers, but have come to the conclu sion that 'it is a very fruitless, hopeless task. The way. of transgressors of this class is devious and perverse in the extreme, and we know the adage, give certain inventions an hour's start and it is hard to overtake them.. But the question arises is it necessary or even judicious to attempt running them to earth ? Verily we trow not. As one illustra tion of the clumsy skill of the romance paragraphist referred to, an inuendo was thrown out that it would take a great deal of paper and ink to convince -people that the Ha...
