FOR WOMEN [Newspaper Article] — Ringwood and Croydon Chronicle — 22 January 1915

FOR WOMEN (By "Ambresine.") A Home. paper gives an amusing ac count of how entertaining Belgians adds to the social status. To have only one Belgian in your hose is to invite a condescending pity, but the family that lias two or three, though pleased, must, on the other hand, look with res pect on those others that can boast of their six or seven. Not pounds in the bank, but Belgians in the drawing room or kitchen, places you as a house holder, to be looked up to in England now . One English woman confesses that she has felt compelled to throw away her novels and fill up her spare time by studying history since they came. Not to study war maps again, seems, under the circumstances, terrible -inertia. Was it not R. L. Stevenson who said ...

The Austrians, overjoyed at the prospect of victory, were merci less'y poulnding the unsupported regi mont. Already they were nearing the one battery whichi formed their last defence, and it was running short or ammnnunition. The position was des perate.
