One worJfa I with the automatic finder and the other with the old-fashioned twig, j one checking the other. A romark I able demand for their services has | set In. In fact, it is impossible to* meet nil the requests in a given time. A report was recently submitted to the Lands Department on the. result of their operations in the Shire of Murgon, where they conjointly select ed a number of sites for wells. Seven cases were quoted. In one, water to the amount of 600 gallons •per hour was struck, the pump being unable^to reduce the flow. In an other, 350*gallons, and in a third 150 gallons, wero obtained ; while in two . other cases good supplies were ob tained' without any estimate of the quantity given. Correspondence. AXEMAN, SPARE THAT TREE (To the Editor). Sir,—-I notice with profound ro gret that several fine majestic trees have been felled in the east end of the town of late, and that work lias been commenced to remove several moro off the broad highway lead ing just past' the Formers' Arms hotel. Surely the traffic on this wide road has not increased to such an extent of lato mon'hs as to demand the trees being removed for public safety, when they have stood sentinel ever since Tocumwal s laid out and no mischief cans ed. We, as residents, have reason to be proud of our big timber in and about the township, which is a picturesque feature that many another town would be extremely glad to possess. Certainly pre serve every tree wherever possible. T true)- the shire council will in vesticate into tjns matter. —Yours, RATEPAYER.
