ALEXANDRA POLICE COURT. At the Alexandra Police Court on Thursday, August 24, Thomas Fox was charged with failing to destroy rabbits on his property at Kanumbra. Fined £5, with £1/16/- costs. W. H. Kipping, of Merton, on a simi lar charge was fined £5, with £1/16/ costs. Inspector Irvine, of Euroa, prosecuted. These cases were heard before Mr. Catlow, S.M. Mr. W. Glen appeared for defendants. P. P. Corboy v. P. McCallum. Case adjourned for eight weeks. The sum of £6/9/-, for costs, were claimed for complainant's solicitor, Mr. W. Glen. James Butler, a new arrival from overseas, was charged with assaulting the police and using obscene language. Fined £1 on each charge. Defendant is employed by the C.R.B., at Snobs' Creek camp. Senior-constable Frietag prosecuted, and Mr. W. Glen appeared for defendant. Mr. Catlow and Mr. W. Crosbie, J.P., adjudicated on this case. The incidents were alleged to have taken place in Grant street on August 5th, at about 6.15 p.m.

In spite of the wet and cold weather last Friday evening, a very good and enjoyable time was had by all who attend the R.S.L. ball. The floor was in excellent condition, due to the good work of Mr. Jack Trennery and his helpers, and the stage lookcd quite colorlul and decorative with the red, white and blue colors, the I1.S.L. ltis ing Sun, flags, balloons, and the Lest We Forget fence along the front of the stage. Continuous dancing was enjoyed to the music supplied by the two local orchestras, Mr. Dundas' and Mr. Still nman's. Mr. Babe Stillman was M.C., and kept things going with a swing. A very popular winner of the b-lle of the ball competition was Miss Val ma Turner. Judge: for this competi tion were Mr. and Mrs. McIndoe, of Leongatha, and hMrs. DLiavy, of Cath kin. GROUP LIBRAIRY SERVICE. At a public meeting held recently in connection with the group library project with the Shire of Yea, Messrs. W. -lemphill and Cook were appoint ed on a committee to represent the public of Alexandra. The committee comprises two members from the Yea Shire Council, two members from the public of Yea, and two councillors of Shire of Alexandra. The committee will appoint its own chairman. The library will be controlled by the shire councils concerned. The agreement of the committee was read, also the duties. The shire secretary will be executive officer of the committee. Cr. " ALEXANDRA DAIRY COMPANY. The 58th ordinary annual general meeting of shareholders of the above company was held in the Board room on Friday last. Mr. M. Stevenson (chairman of directors) presided. Prior to the meeting Mr. Stevenson t entertained directors, members of the staff, visitors and the Press represen tative at a luncheon at the Mount Pleasant Hotel. The meal served was excellent, and the service splendid. An adjournment was made to the Board room at the factory, for the meeting. The chairman apologised for the absence of Mr. W. ALEXANDRA STANDARD PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY. At the special stock sale at Alexandra last Friday, conducted by Goldsbrough Mort Ltd. and Younghusband Ltd. (agents in conjunction), an Hereford cow and her calf realised £54 15s (cow £30 10s, calf £24 5s). The calf` was 13 months old. To-night (Friday) a combined Church and School evening will be held in the Parish hall. All welcome. Church of England - An im portant meeting of the men of St. John's will be held on Mon day, September 18, at 8 p.m. A crazy whist afternoon will be held in the Parish hall on Tues day afternoon, at 2 30. Everyone welcome. Yarck C.W.A. meeting Tues day, 19th Sept. 2.30 p.m. sharp. Competition for marmade, later to be forwarded to Somers House.
