XOXHB EDITOR Sis,-Living some few miles from town, I was slot able to attend the meeting held byMr. Bowman in tbe Union Hall last Thursday evening, but read yonr report of the 8&me in yonr issue of Saturday last. Politi cally speaking, I bavo always been very democratic in my views, and gave my support to tbose geatlemen who have supported the Labour Party. Corbett v. Sharkey. [Newspaper Article] — The Charleville Times — 15 October 1898

Corbett v. Sharkey 16 is behaved that Major Marehand will withdraw from Faahoda of hia own free-will, For the purpose of extricating the Government from their difnenlsy. The Standard states that M. Dal cassa was the originator of the idea to establish a French post oil the Nile. It is stated that ha will probably resign. The Kuasian Press advocates arbi tration as the best means of settling the Fashoda difficulty. Lord Kosebery, in an important speech, said the situation regarding Fashoda was one of extreme gravity, and that no Government receding from Sir Edward Gray's policy could survive a wiek. He stated the case was doubly grava because Franco knew that Britain regarded the occu pation aa unfriendly, and Lord Salis bury was backed by the entire nation. It was a disastrous mistake to snppose that the ancient spirit of Britain was dead.
