MOTORISTS' DUTY IN THE BUSH [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 13 August 1947

MOTORISTS' DUTY IN THE BUSH An appeal to. motorists to protect the bush, particularly in view of the arrival of wildflower time during the present unprecedented dry period, is made by the N.R.M.A. and R.A.C.A. In a joint statement,-the two org anisations said that motor tourists and picnickers had a real responsib ility towards the bushlands,, which were being steadily dcenuded of their beauty by careless and wilful* des truction of flowers and trees. While the greatest despoilers were people who plucked flowers wholesale for their own profit, and while the aver age tourist had a sense of respon sibility, there were many picnickers who either plucked native blooms in large quantities for their own pleas ure or who endangered the country side by careless use of fire. The N.R.M.A. and R.A.C.A. ap pealed to picnickers to be careful where they lit their picnic fire and to be sure to put it out before leav hng.
