Vines that have previously suffered from oidium may be dressed with a mixture of sulphur, soft-soap, and lime; apple trees should also be dressed to destroy the cotton blight. Plantcorms of gladiolus ; also - prelargoniums and others of the har dier bedding plants. Sow couch grass on lawns Plant buffalo grass. Pro t pagate half-hardy flowering plants. TEE FRANCHISE BILL. London, August 5. A public meeting was held in Bir mingham last night to consider the ac tion cf the House of Lords:in refusing to pass the Franchise Bill unless it was accompanied by a measure for the re disbribution of seats. . There was a very large attendance, and speeches were delivered by the Right Hon. John Bright and the Right Hon. Joseph Chamberlain, the mem bers for the borough, in which they menaced the House of Lords for its ac tion or the question. Numerous conservative meetings are being held.throughout the country to support the House of Lords in its ac tion with regard to the Franchiise Bill. London, August 6. Earl: Granville announced in the Bouse of Lords yester'dey that the Franchise Bill would be brought in during the next (autumn) session in the same form in which it ,was introduced this session.
