LOCAL ENTHUSIASM FOR CRICKET The advance of the national sum mer game in Canberra in recent years has proved one of the outstanding features of the sporting history of the Territory. As an example of this it may be staled that ten teams participated in tile "A" Grade competition of the Federal Capital Territory Association last ¡ eas on, whereas no less than 24 fe;i:J:; applied for affiliation during P. P. DOUGLAS, President F.T. Cricïcet Association. the season just concluded. This ne cessitated a considerable amount of <;Î-fr."in:«in?< by the Association, result ing- in the provision (in conjunction with the Social Service Association), of a large number of additional cricket pitches. The number of clubs desir ing to enter the Association's com pel liions also necessitated the grad ing of teams into three divisions, viz., two "A" grade, of six teams each, and one "B" grade of twelve teams. Child Welfare PARENTS AND CITIZEN'S ASSO CIATION'S FINE WORK. Thc history oí this Association is one of endeavour and achievement, but as good institutions always tend to grow, the Association is f- uroly de stined to expand its operations and widen its sphere of influer ^ in th ; future. Peeping into its origin we find that it was created at a meeting called by the headmaster of the Telopea Park School (Mr. C. L. Henry) at the end of 1023, and having then established monthly meetings for discussion and plan making, these fine, fruit bearing talks have been held ever since. Thc objectives of the Association are to maintain contact between par ents and teachers-to stimulate civic interest in the. school, and to assist in equipping it with all sporting and od nea tiona! accessories. in tiio sporting sphere, the most Mpeetaeular project carried out was 1 ho erection of two tennis courts, which, however, were not completed without strenuous effort, and defiance ol' diihculty; but now th...
