Forestry Department relative to the ' taking of timber from the State for ests or timber reserves, for municipal purposes, chiefly bridge building or repairs. It appears that the Foresty Department lays claims to all timber on roads and "all lands not alienated from the Crown. The council has ? to pay royalty on any timber which . it removes from Buch areas, but gets ; a 50 per cent, concession where :v j permit to cut timber on its behalf i is taken out by one person. At j the Council meeting on Friday Cr | Warner, who has long taken an in- j tercst in this question, said he would ; brinsr it before a conference of muni- j cipalities shortly to be field in Beech- i worth. "Fancy," said he, with I rising indignation," "a shire council i having to pay for a stick of timber out of the State forest to make a road . to suit the Forestry De...
