POLITICAL. Mr. J. K. McDougall, the Farmers', candidate for the Flinders seat at the forthcoming Federal election, will address the electors in the Bunyip Hall at 8 o'clock to-morrow (Friday) inight. Mr. McDougall, who is a practical farmer and landowner at Willaura, formerly represented the YVannon constituency in the Federal Parliament, and wns known through out the Western District as " Honest Mac." He will speak at Yannathan at 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon, and atjModella at 4 o'clock. On Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock he will address a meeting at Cora Lynn, at 4 o'clock at; Gartield, and at 8 o'clock in the evening ut Iona. At 2 o'clock on Monday evening Vf. McDougall is announced to speak at. Tynong, and at 8 o'clock the same evening he will hold a meeting ut the Pakenhatn mechanics hall.

Senator Findley at Bunyip. OPENING OF CAMPAIGN. The Federal- election campaign was opened at Bunyip by Senator Findley on Monday' evening last, and a more •.mpleaBant evening oould scarcely have been chosen. As all arrangements had been made, the meeting could not well be postponed, consequently those who did attend braved the elements of wet and stormy weather. When Senator Findley began to speak the attendance was muoh larger than was expected^ and it gradually increased in numbers, till finally a j<oo(l audience was present. The chair w:is ocoupied by Mr. J. Quigley, presi dent of the Bnnyip Branch, P.L.C., who briefly introduced the speaker. Senate; Findley, received a round of applause on rising. Trood, the skilful dentist, of Warragul, announces that he will pay auother visit to Bunyip on Saturday, Aug. 8th, ,and may be consulted at Wilson's Hotel. An epidemic of diphtheria lias occurred at JDandeuoug, where there are at present about a dozen cases under treatment by the local doctors. There were several other cases of a similar uature, but the patients have since recovered. The lamented death occurred at, Kooweerup last week of Mrs. Lyall, mother of Mr. Theo. J. Lyall. The deceased, who was 77 years of age, was a pioueer of the Laug Lang and Kooweerup district. The remains were interred in the Lang Lang cemetery. Municipal Elections. The approach of the annual council elections is causing ratepayers to move with a view to having their opinions definitely expressed at the council table by their members. Certainly rats payers differ vastly in their opinions, nevertheless all of them have a right to say which person should or should not represent them. Only about one month remains from now till polling day, and during the last few days the usual " sounding " of likely candidates by ratepayers have been indulged in. Cr. Chas. Pearson started off duriog the week by announcing his intention of retiring from the Pakenham riding seat next month. Cr. Pearson's time rightly does not expire until next year, but owing to pressure of business, and also the faot that his son has left for Melbourne, which means a big loss of assistance to him in his business, ho has decided to retire.
