ILARGE FIRE IN COLLINS STREET.- t £20,000 WORTH OF PROPERTY 'j DESTROYED. ( (FROM THIIE IIELD.) One of the largest fires that has occurred Li this city for some years past took place ,n Monday afternoon, at Messrs, Beauchamp and Rlocke's furniture warehouse, next the Bank of Victoria, Collins street c~st. About half-past one o'clock Mr. Jarnett, salesman to the firm, observed flames in the mattress room, a wooden building with an ircn roof, which is between the iron yard and the store man's quarters-constructed of wood and iron -in Flinder's-lane; and he immediately hurried to the Town-hall and gave the alarm. Mr. Superintendent HoAd and his staff im mediately turned out, and a copious supply of water was soon on from Flinders-lane. The private hose had been playing for a few minutes, but it was of very little use, the jet being very small. In the mean time the fire had quickly spread, and communicated with the storeinan's house, inhabited by his wife and four children, who were wit...
