THE TIN MINES. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 20 April 1872

THE TIN MINES. Tas navra from the tin mines (says the Warwick Examiner of Saturday last) is altogether satis foptory. The surveyors ure now measuring off the selections, and thoso miners who have had theirs defined and surveyed are settling down abd making preparations for storting work in a practical manner. Timber for sluice boxes and other materials for washing have left the town for tho mines dBÜy, as also have drays and spring carts laden with stores end necessary household articles. The claims on Quart Pot Creek continue to show every sign of richness, end the stuff washed in some claims is nearly all stream tin. At Buby Creek work is going on more briskly, and the samo moy be said of nil paris of tho mines on tho New South Wales Side of this metalliferous country. On Cannon Creek, from Butler's claim to the junction, all land is taken np, some claims look very well, and tin con be found in all ports ; other selections on this creek are no doubt rich, but it is feared that tho...

The directory gires the following figures as representing the daily papers of various countries:-Germany 1743, Auatro-IIungary 268, Switzerland 262, France 392, Hrleinm 198, the Netherlands 171, the United Kingdom 1253, Denmark 96, Sweden and Norway 184, BUBBÍB, 160, Italy 333, Spain 91, Portugal 26, the United States 622, the rest ol' America 131, Asia, 57, Africa 602, Austrulia 75. We rather doubt if the figures elated for non-continental countries ure etrietly correct; if they are, Germany bas indoed 1uken Ibo lead by a great distance. Speaking of thc progrcrs of German journalism, the publica- tion remarks that tho press has developed most rapidly end most successfully wheu neither caution mon...
