Fine Hogs in Ttne hands . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 4 February 1902

Fine Hogs in Ttne hands . HES sir , our l _ og raising territory is expanding . It is doing this little expansion act witlicmt waiting for statesmen and jurists to determine whether the hog follows the constitution or vice versa . The American pork chop , bacon , ham and side dishes are simply reaching out , growing and nourishing in new territory every year . It is not many years ago that the pine lands of northern Wisconsin were considered worthless after the timber was cut off . Thousands of acres weie deserted and allowed to grow vast expanses of wild blackberries and underbrush . Finally a thrifty race of settlers began to take possession of these lands , clear them and make them productive of grain , hay and live stock . No longer ago than yesterday Mr . W . R . Sherburne , of Menominie , Wis ., away up on the Ked Cedar river , where a few years ago there was nothing but pine timber , an occasional lazy Indian and wild animals , came to market with a premium lot of Poland Chin...

Values Still 'Rising . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 4 February 1902

Values Still Rising . DNFORMATION from correspondents of the Live Stock World indicate that the steady appreciation in the value of farm lands which has been in progress for a year past is in no danger of experiencing anything in the nature of reaction . While Iowa has experienced the maximum effect of the rise Minnesota and the Dakotas have also participated in the advance andjnow Missouri reports an invasion of land hunters and a jump of 810 to $ 15 an acre . Corn land in the best parts of Illinois , notably the Tazewell prairie , has changed hands at $ 135 and as the area is limited and demand strong no recession is to be looked for . The man who is a bear on farm land values just now has need of pretty strong argument to fortify his position . — ¦ o — Hog prices have been about as high as they will be this year if the signs of the times are not very misleading . o
