Home and Farm. rjULIXOWING AMD STUBBLE DTONIKa. Wo have now arrived at tbo sea son when stnbblo plowing or burn ing cannot no longer delayed with out injnry to next year's crop. It is a vexed question with farmers whether it iibesl to bnrn slnbbles or plow it under, and much sound argument can be advanced in favor of both practices. But. however. such opinions about tho wisdom of cany lan plowing, xno sooner land can bo turned over after a crop has' been removed tho better. This maxim applies to every de scription of land, but particularly to heavy or clayoy soil, and tbe failure of crops on such lands Texas aro almost invariably duo to want ot proper preparation of tbo soil; Tbo richness of soil will holp tbo farmer very little, it ho does not make it available for tbo bus tenance of plant life by proper cul tivation. s -& Home and Farm. , TOO MUCH COTTOK. The low price of cotton has been caused by the production of a large crop, the crop for tho present year being estimated to bo excess of any over raised. Fanners cannot afford, under tho presont condition of things, to raise tho staplo at ruling figures, and as wise men, they should be looking around for a remedy. Wo think tho remedy consists in the reduction of the number of bales raised, and in tho substitution of some other crop. There should be a general under standing among tho planters of tho South, that they will try tho plan of planting less cotton for a term of years, and this understanding might be arrived at through the medium of tho Farmers' Alliance. If we raise but odo-fourth tho pres ont crop it is certain tho pneo of cotton will doublo within two years. Tho labor required for the production of the other three' fourths of tho crop could be divert ed to otner crops. In this connec tion it is suggested that our plan ters take h...
