The labors of Mr. Bergh and his ooadjators—who, we tw-o happy to say, are now numbered by thousands —have introduced a new era in tbe merciful use of bones other beasts of buiden. Our cities were formerly scenes of the grossest cruelty in tbe over* loading and over working and beating of these faithful servants. Another department of the same mereiful reform, and one which might be madu as profitable as it is merciful, is tbe training of animal*, and especial ly horses. The old system of "break ing colts" is demonstrated to be an un mitigated piece of cruelty, and not only without use but often a positive injury for life to tbe noblest of all domestio animals. The attempt to subdue horses, young or old, by forcible, viol* ent treatment, in multitudes of cases only served to rouse the fury of ansister. animal that might hav...
