Among the first settlers west of the Alle gheny river was a man, with his family, consisting of his wife and two daughters, of the name of Thornburg. A home was establhcd a little north of the central part of Ohio, ami after a year or two their hab itation fehowrd the- evidences of taste and industry which always characterizes the advance of civilization. Agnes Thornburg, the elder of the two daughters, had reached the age of about eighteen years, when the exciting incident which I am About to re late, occurred.
